I was just on a 2200 mile road trip with my 2002 MM awd and when i was at about the 1/2 way point i got a rear drivetrain vibration when above 60mph so far i have balanced the tires and now from reading other threads i think im going to change the differential oil and friction modifier I have gone under and felt everything drive shafts and racked up and felt wheel bearing nothing loose. so any thoughts would be appreciated. also does anyone know what size that drain plug is for a wrench?
i think the drain is 3/4 inch square and the fill is 3/8 inch square... changing the oil is a possibility if you have gear whine. the whine is noted in a percentage of these trucks at 50-60 MPH. It normally goes away up at 70 MPH. It is not a vibration, it is a noise. When does yours start (MPH) and is it a noise or a real vibration, and does it go away ??
it feel to me like a real slight vibration that starts at about 60 and is there up thru 70-75 As a preventative i plan on changing the diff oil any way the only other thing i can think of that could cause this would be bad u joint that is tight because i know i dont have a loose joint. It also feels like continuos missfire type of vibration but i dont have a check engine light like i would during a miss fire condition.
