There's a spring behind the ****,it will need to be depressed to remove the *****.If you turn the ***** you will see a small section cut out.You will need to find something small enough to fit inside there and depress the spring.I took a small probe and bent the end into an L-Shape and use that to remove the *****.When you depress the spring, pull the **** towards you and it should come right off.Same goes for the Heater-A/C *****.
On some of the headlight switches, if you can reach it, there is a secret little **** sticking down on the switch behind the dash, opposite the side the wiring is plugged into. You can go out and disconnect the battery, pull the headlight switch all the way out, reach behind the dash and push the little **** and pull on the switch, and the whole **** and shaft will come out of the switch.
This worked on my old 1980, but it's too crowded on my 89 to reach it, so it was fiddle with the retainer on it. Most of the time you end up just jerking the **** off, and then it never is quite right after that.
In some years, the button on the light switch faced the opposite way - some up, some down.
I struggled to find mine the first time I removed it & found it was opposite to what I had been described - then later read of the change.
