I had an uncle who did stuff like that. He was a WWII submariner and life long pipe fitter. I don't think he ever drove a nail or turned a screw in his life. If two things needed put together they were welded or soldered...but then they never came apart either.

Anyways that here truck you got is a treasure and I can't wait to see it progress along.
Well, it's ranch country down here, but they share the same basic fab skills. And there was definitely one in the history of this truck, I even found some bailing wire repair work.

Ranchers like these old trucks because they can load them up with hay, put them in granny gear and then get back in the bed and throw the hay out in a line by themselves. It was the same story with my first truck (1959 ******) that's all they used it for.

Thanks!

Nope, I just sanded it down to bare metal and sprayed it with primer. No surprises and better yet, no rust.

Maybe you could shoot it with enamel it would be about 300$ for the paint and it is pretty easy to spray. Also I found a 52 3/4 ton ( I live here in Gillette) I would like to come by and check yours out.

I like it the way it is, get it running really good and enjoy while you save for the paint job you want or make it a sleeper...

That could be fun. Did I see that '56 over by the college (4-J / West 4-J) the day of their jazz festival/car show? I saw a white '56 driving over there that morning.

The '52 3/4 ton, is it the brown one in your gallery? Because that looks like a '51 hood??

Hood Primer

Great deal for $400. About the primer on the hood, "rattle can" primer, if that's what you're using, is not compatable with most new auto paints. This happened to me when I got my f1 painted. My suggestion would be to use a urethane 2k primer. Epoxy primer will seal the best for rusty areas etc. There is a product called SprayMax which is a spray can with the catalyst in a inner camber. Once released into the rest of the bottle it turns into a true 2k catalyzed primer from a spray can!! Eastwood restoration supplies has it as well a series of paints with a flat finish called "Flatz" which is top coat. The advantage of the urethane 2k primer is once it sets up, it is very resistance to the elements(rain, sun, uv) so you can use it until you are ready to top coat!! Google SprayMax. Hope that helps Zoot

4 speed in an F1?

By the way, I got the old van seats out of it last night and got to play around with the trans, it's the 4spd, not the 3, pretty excited about that. [/QUOTE]

Was the 4 speed an option for an F1?

Yep, the book has it listed as a HD option for the F-1, but now it's for sale, interested?

Made a big chunk of progress today, the engine and trans are out! Also, i've sold quite a few parts that i'm not going to be re-using on the build, more than the $400 purchase price actually, so for now the truck is free and making money. But I suspect that since it's now ready for a new powertrain that trend won't continue for long. And I think I have an engine and trans lined up for it too. Anyway, pretty happy about being that much closer to driving it next summer
