1990 460 Burnt Dis Cap and Rotor

Hello-

I have a 1990 F-350 460 4x4. You may have seen my other post about this truck relating to the check engine light coming on and fuel mileage down. Today I opened up the distributor cap to find the cap prongs and rotor metal burnt. I have not looked at the plugs yet. The cap and rotor were relaced about 2 years ago. Is this normal for 2 years of hard use? Could it be related to the light coming on? I relize it will bring my fuel mileage down. Any thoughts, let me know. Thanks, Patrick

I suggest you do check your plugs... how long have you had them for. The cap and rotor should not be too burnt just some casual wear visible. I replace mine every 9-12months. As the engine light goes it could be telling you something else. You would have to pull codes to figure that out.
