Transmission Fluid
Transmission fluid is light Grey in color, and has been since dealershp replaced in in December. Driving from Colorado to L.A. a transmission line "Popped"? Drained all the fluid. Towed to Ford Dealer. Told that the pump seal had blown out, that the transmission was still leaking, and that I'd be lucky to make it 2 blocks. Said I needed a new Tranny ($4,000.00) but it would have to wait a week until after Christmas. Drove a block, checked with another Transmission repairer, who said his franchise in the next town. Saw no leaking of fluid, so bought (2) cases of tranny fluid and checked it every 10 miles, no loss of fluid ever, drove 600 miles to L.A. The fluid hasn't changed color since I checked it a block from the dealership. What did they put in the tranny? Everyone says it should have been RED!!!!

You've got a 4R100 in your '02. They should have used Mercon V, which is pink or red in every brand I have ever seen. In fact, never seen a gray tranny fluid, even when it was burnt. Should go from almost clear pink or red, to dark red, to brown, but never gray. Sorry, cannot guess what that would be.
