I made it!

2010 Habitat for Humanity Cover Indiana Bike Tour. 7 days, 361 miles, with headwinds EVERY day. This was my first long-distance bike ride--before the first day, I had never ridden more than 30 miles in a single session, nor more than about 75 miles in a week. The ride is an awareness and fundraising tour. I didn't think much of the awareness part until we stopped in the small town of Linton, IN. The 800 students in the elementary school there, despite half of them being on the school lunch program, spent 3 years raising $50 each to fund a Habitat home. The recipient family moved in this past December. The little town even has its own bike shop now because of the boosted interest in cycling over the 7 years the Tour has been overnighting there. We had riders in a broad range of abilities and ages--from college students to Al, our nearly 77 year old grumpy old man (he was a riot).

Congrats but 361 miles is a 2 day trip, not a week.

Tour, not race...hence the week. Don't forget that I mentioned we had a broad range of abilities among the riders. I averaged anywhere between 11 and 14 MPH not including stops, so there's no way I'd want to be in the saddle for 13-16 hours per day. And I usually finished in about the top third or so.

If you can do 361 miles in two days, more power to you. Probably 80-90% of our riders couldn't have, nor would they have wanted to if they could.

The mistake I initially made, too. I guess 361 miles on a bicycle is pretty good! Be proud! and congratulations.
