door hinge question
I have a 1995 f-150, and the top door hinge on the drivers door is loose, to the point where my door can move about a half inch. I was thinking about replacing it myself, and want some help from people that have done this before. The rivet that serves as the pivot between the door and body is what is loose, it looks like the bushing is destroyed. I was planning on cutting the rivot just above the bottom part of the hinge, and putting in a bolt that is the same size as the hole in the hinge, and then, once I have the right size and have half the hinge aligned correctly, simply pushing the bolt up through the top half, remving the top half of the hinge at the same time. I figured that this would sidestep the problem of completely removing the rivot and re-aligning the door hinge. Any thoughts about this? See any potential problems?

I always replace worn hinges with tight junkyard ones, but many people buy the hinge rebuild kits from parts stores. They're ~$8 and apparently about the same as what you described, but ready-made.

The only problem I have is that I don't want to remove the enitre door hinge assembly, because I don't have access to a welder or anything like that. What kind of process is involved in installing a new hinge kit?

What makes you think you need a welder? There are 2 bolts on the door and 3 on the body, and the hinge comes right out. You just have to unbolt the back edge of the fender (6 bolts) to get to the body bolts, but it's not that hard.
