Did all factory 4x4s have the special 4x4 front fenders??
I have noticed over the years that lots of these vintage 4x4 trucks don't have the factory 4x4 front fenders. I am referrring to the 4x4 special radius front fenders.
I have seen some 4x4 trucks that don't look like they have been molested and look completely factory-but have the standard front fenders without the special opened up radius. These 4x4 trucks usually have the special four spoke steering wheels.
I know that many of these "factory" 4x4 trucks are misrepresented knowingly or unknowningly by their owners-but did Ford actually install 4x2 fenders on these actual factory 4x4 trucks??

The 'special' as you call them 4WD fenders are NOT exclusive to 4WD trucks...they were also used on F350's as well...
As for the swap for the smaller opening...its simply a matter of finding them...4WD/1 ton fenders arent too easy to find whereas the 2WD type are everywhere...
As for misrepresenting their trucks...the VIN bears that out...F100 4WD will all have an F11 as the first characters of their VIN and the F250 trucks will have an F26 as the first 3 characters of their VIN...If the LH door has been changed, the VIN is also stamped into the passenger side frame rail on the topside surface by the fender apron. Its located approx. 12 inches forward of the main engine crossmember and will have an asterisk (*) on either end...the characters are about 1/4-5/16" high.

There are, from my understanding of what others have posted on here in the past that the VIN is also in the same frame location...but under the cab as well....But the thing is If Im not mistaken 4WD frames are different then their 2WD counterparts.
Whats wrong with your 4WD frame you have ??

it's rusted along with all the steering components and axles. figured it would cost just as much as swapping in a 70's frame if i went and fixed all the problems with it. plus i get the advantages of power steering and available lift kits for 70's frames. i always wanted to lift it but no kits available for my year would have to be customed. if i can ask a question i need the sheet metal that the front fenders bolt to in the back part by the door and where the hinges bolt to where it comes down and connects to the step bottom if that makes any sense hard to explain. anyway a guy has the lower corners from a 66 f100 2wd would they fit on my 64 f100 4x4

I am refering to the 4x4 special 45" opening radius front fenders.

Yes, on 1966 F100 4WD's without the optional 17" wheels.

If I understand NumberDummy's post-if the truck is a 1961 thru 65 F100/250 and it is actually a factory 4x4 and has the standard front radius fenders-the fenders have probably been replaced. But I thought that I saw a Ford official vintage photo of one of these 4x4 trucks with standard front fenders?? I may be mistaken. I will try to locate this photo.
No one has an original 61-65 factory F100/F250 4x4 with factory installed standard 4x2 fenders? Probably no original owners of one of these vehicles on this forum.
Ford have used leftover parts when building vehicles right after or before the yearly changeover. Just wondering if this could also apply to these F series of this vintage.

Corners ??? the difference is in the radius of the wheel arch itself. The reat of the fender is the same..the lower rear and lower front areas are shorter as a result. the bolt up method and amount are identical, the leading edge where it bolts to the grille and valances are the same.

It was prolly a 1966 F100 4WD.
1966 F100 4WD's not only use 2WD fenders, but if it's a Styleside, it uses the 1964/66 F100/250 2WD Styleside bed's.
1961/65 F100/250 4WD Stylesides, 1966 F250 4WD Stylesides...use the 1957/60 Styleside bed.

There isn't any such thing....all these 4WD's came with...as original...the 45" opening radius fenders.

When Ford has leftover parts on the assembly line, if they aren't used for the next years model, they are packaged, sold to dealers thru Ford parts depot's, like all other parts.
