That's a scary story Robin. If I ever let my water pump rest long enough to start dripping, I think I'll just get one from Ford. That sounds like too much hassle to save a couple of dollars.
Dang Robin, that sounds like you were having one of my days.
Or another one of mine. Frustrating for sure.

Thanks for sharing the story.
Learned my lesson Chris. I was still a bit of a Newb back in Oct 2008.
I just installed a Napa Tru-Flow water pump. The job went well and doesen't seem to leak. I loosened the fan with a pipe wrench and a chain wrench on the pully.
Has anybody had success with these pumps?
Bob
I put one in my wife's Ex back in September 2007, 40k miles ago, and it's working fine.
Robin, thanks for the pictures. I'd never seen a gasket like that. Mine was smooth and round when I did the pump on my Ex.
I plan on doing some preventive maintenance on my 250, replacing the pump on my truck sometime this year along with a flush and ELC refill and if I received a gasket like that, I would have thought something was wrong! LOL.

Stewart,
When he asked if it was the gasket with all the little bumps I thought "huh". That gasket is a little more difficult to get in the groove but it does stay in place. Put a thin coating of Sil-Glyde on it before mounting the pump.

Been a long couple of weeks Mike. Heading out Wednesday for Gardnerville, NV and then going to the Diesel Drags in Sacramento Sunday. It's time for a little R&R. When I get back from Sacto I will start getting ready for RRW.

Yeah, I used a silicone lubricant spray on the gasket when I changed the pump on my Ex. It helped to keep it in the groove, which was very nice!
...then going to the Diesel Drags in Sacramento Sunday.
Sweet! I'll see you there! But make sure you're there on Saturday. That's when the NHRDA division points race is being held. Sunday is the 8th Annual Ford Lovers West Coast Nationals.
I wish I could stay thru Sunday, but I gotta be back for my grand daughters first birthday party!
Yep, just installed my new water pump the beginning of last week which included and new T-stat (just because) and bullet T-stat housing and still no leaks!

I did say Sunday didn't I. I meant Saturday and possibly Sunday. Are you going up with Peter? I've got Peter's cell number so we can find each other.

Pete's coming up on Saturday with his whole family. I'm heading up Friday and staying at my brothers place in Folsom. I might hit the test and tune with Steve Bricks Friday night tho.
