Using SyncroMesh ATF in a Gear Oil only Transmission
Hey guys,
I realize that, by large, we're all for following factory spec's, but I wanted to get some opinions on this idea.
My tranny (NP435) bites a bit going into 3rd gear, and sometimes 4th. It's obviously the syncro's because if I double clutch and match rev's, not an issue at all.
I have an old Lancia Beta (100 cool points if you know what that is!) with a 5-speed, that required gear oil as well. When it started biting into gear, I put SyncroMesh ATF in it per recommendation, and the problem was magically, and nearly instantly solved.
I want to do the same to my F-150, but wanted to get your opinions first. Has anyone done this to a Ford truck? Basically, I need this transmission to keep going for 2 more years, so I'd like to F it up as little as possible.
Thanks!

First off, yes I do know what a Lancia Beta is but haven`t seen one for years.
Second, I think the key statement was you want the trans to last for another two years. Now, I don`t know if it will but i would think the best insurance is to keep using Hypoid gear oil in it.
Just my opinion, hopefully others will follow.
