You just need a different backspacing right? Cause they won't fit over the drum or caliper or something like that.. am I right or way off? I remember I wanted to switch over to 15's a few years back just to run a set of tires I had, but there was a fitting issue.

he was talking to alpha kris, he has a jeep on stock tiny axles, but paul can't read so he missed that they have already been sold.
i'm with ed on the tires. rims are cheaper than new tires. a decent set of steel 15's would fit on tons and save you some cash too.

I was kind of worried. I thoguht Paul might be stalking me or something. Probably is, but oh well. My jeep is running 31" A/T's lol. I was wondering why he thought I should upgrade axles. :P

Maybe I will keep the tires and run them since nobody seems to want them, no bids on ebay yet. Years ago I had a set of 44" Ground hogs on 15 inch rims on 8-lug rims. They seemed to work out alright. If I order some wheels to fit over my 1-ton gear what type of specs do i need? Do i need to worry about anything but backspacing?

idk the backspacing, but i believe the spacing should be around 3''. check with eaton wheel, they are known for 8 lug 15's. and i do believe that you are limited to steel wheels, because the aluminium ones are too thick and don't have enough room inside to fit the brakes

Update on my build progress. Keep in mind this truck came with no motor or trans however the t-case was still in place. So first step was to find a 460 and C6. Truck previously had a C6 and 351C combo. So I found on craigslist a 460 out of a 78 F350 4x2 with 3000 miles on rebuild with paperwork from some farmer about 30 miles from me. So i went and bought that. It also had a C6 bolted to it for free! No use to me though. I happened to have a C6 from a 78 F250 4x4 I cut up a few months ago so I installed that in the frame. However nothing would line up. Turns out the C6 I had, has the 5 and7/8" trans to tcase spacer. Previously the bronco had the 8.75" spacer so my trans will not work, I found a few on craigslist today and am hoping to go get one tonight. I have pulled these apart and changed rear shafts before so this should be no problem. There is one locally for $50 but it has been outside for a while the guy said so i will probably just swap shafts and spacers. Anyways I got the new 460 home and pulled the oil pan off to put a rear sump pan and pump on which went smooth. I had those in storage from a previous part out. I also dug out a set of barely used L&L fenderwell exit headers i had in storage along with a edelbrock intake and carb I had. Then it was time to pull the big tires off and put some rollers on it so it would fit in the garage. Just made it by airing the tires down to about 10 psi. It wouldnt fit with the little tires aired up to 40psi. Close one! Here are a couple pics of the progress!

Well Craigslist saves the day again. I found the correct trans tonight. The guy swore up and down that this tranny was good. And it has the longer shaft so now hopefully everything will be in the right spot again. Both of these trans' were in 1979 F250's. How confusing!

Thanks WideOpen, I think it is a great find, yes it is very clean. The truck was built by the guy I got it from in 1982. Its last paint job was in 1991. It has all held up really well. It only has 41,xxx original miles. He was very meticulous! He said before every race he covered the whole truck in WD40 to keep the mud from sticking. And obviously he washed it immediately after each race.

Well its a pretty nice truck. You might get the transmission built before you stick it in. No reason to take a chance.

I am way over budget for this truck already and I want to run it with my 4x4 clubs trailride next weekend. So I am going to skip the trans rebuild for now. But after memorial day I am going to start my D60 f/r swap. If I need to I will repull the tranny then. The guy I bought the tranny from had some AMAZING rides and seemed pretty credible so I am going to trust him (I never trust anyone!) I am taking the night off tonight because the gf has school and i have baby duty! Look for some new pics tom night!

Also as a side note: The guy I got the trans from had a '79 F250 complete but rusty with 42" Super Swampers and a 400 and a D60 front. He wants $1200 for it with 2 extra 205's a spare C6, some 460 headers and some misc crap. If I wasnt so over budget I would have grabbed it. Also its not advertised as for sale so its probably not going anywhere.
