What is needed for 500 HP powerstroke?

Hey guys, just was thinking at work today.. well everyday about power strokes. What would it take to build a daily drive-able truck with around 500 hp? I would assume trans/torque convert upgrade, bigger turbo (housing), stage 2 injectors, high pressure oil pump, high pressure fuel pump, custom tune.. Would the engine handle 500 hp? Is this obtainable or reasonable for daily driving? What would the torque be?

Just thought it'd be interesting to see what everyone thinks! We can all dream (well getting paid for it like i do at work hahaha)

A thick wallet... no seriously get you some 200cc or bigger hybrids, one of the performance hpop's, bigger turbo (38r or h2e) regulated return fuel system and good tuning. Also for you I would get some of them forged rods too. Probably around 750-1000 tq depending.

Cash, cash, and more cash! Deven has some good ideas to start with. The nice thing about hybrids is you can tune them down to basically stock and drive around without issues (gotta love electronic engine controls). Joe (Izzy351) dynoed at 449hp and 1016tq. To do it right IMO
forged rods, Stage III injectors (238's), Big oil, push rods, valve springs, RR with good pump, Head studs and turbo. Could be a h2e, 38R or 42R and tuning of course.

nice list right there..you can get away with medium oil...i just picked up a set of rod's..sending them to WOP as well as the bearings and a set of Mahle pistons to be cryoed, magnaflux, polish, and install new pin bearings in the rods my sump and fuel lab will be be here wednesday..deciding on 238'3 or 250's...ill be north of the 500HP mark after beans does the tuning...im still debating on sending my cam to dave lott to have it played with....

Put 50 HP in your pocket and go take a ride with Joe. That should get you 500 HP.

So what would be a safe HP on stock internals? Say if you went with injectors/turbo, fuel, oil leaving everything else stock? What about the trans, no one has mentioned upgrading the trans?

Hey Ron what does a girdle do ? Do you think a stock bottom forged engine can handle 600+ hp. What about upper half maybe push rods, valve srpings, head studs or will a stock upper half handle 600+. Just thinking of some ideas . I will be working on forged motor soon. Hp goal 500+ will complete stock motor handle that kind of power? Iam like you if I need it I know it's there.

The main stud girdle kits ties the main caps together to eliminate main cap walk and reduce the chance of block fractures and cracking at higher performance levels. there are a bunch of 500 HP trucks out there not using this and there still running strong..if i was going to 600..i would use it..there are trucks out there at 600 without it and they are still running strong.. doesnt mean its going to work for ever..kind of like going over the 400 mark on PMR's..some get lucky..some dont..

its too bad Joe has PMR's..he should have done better then he did..but no tuner is going to tune a PMR motor like a forged rod motor...got to love them injectors from fullforce though...mine did 436HP on a 97 with a 17 pump a D66 and beans fueling....i know im about the same as that..will be a lot better after i finish the fueling..these injectors will have a hard time to empty out because there will be plenty of fuel to reload...

Since your truck is an 02 and has PMR's, general rule of thumb for "safe" power is around 400 hp on stock internals. However, it's still not a guarantee. Some PMR's have given out with well under 400 hp, and some PMR's are still going strong with over 400 hp.

As for the trans, yes you'll definitely need a strong build.

Wow... a girtle for 500hp??? LOL

500hp build assuming you have Forged rods...

38r or Modded H2e $2000
250/100 hybrids $2300
Studs $500
910 Valve springs $100
Tuning $400-500
Tranny... $4000

There ya go.

No girtle, no valve work, no oil system, no nitrious...
