1992 f150 door adjustment
i have a 92 f150 with 44,000 miles 2wd ext cab. The problem is that the passenger door rattles like crazy. Every time you hit a bump it rattles. I think it bounces up and down not in and out but I am not sure? How can you adjust the door to quit this very annoying rattle? Thank you

both of my doors will will make a loud sound when hitting a bump if they didnt' get closed all of the way. It happen 100% of the time I have a passenger. If it's just a rattle, it might be the inner bracket that the mirror attaches too. There is a nut in there that can loosen up and rattle a bit.
Just a thought.

Can you lift the door when its open? If there's some "play" in the door, then your pins and bushings are probably worn out. You can see them inside the hinges, if they look jacked up then you'll need to replace them. I did both my doors a couple weekends ago- it was a PITA but it was cheap and totally worth it! No more doors rattling or lift-as-you-close!
Good news: AutoZone has them in the "Help" isle for $5.99 each, and you need 2.
It will require a strong buddy or maybe 2 to take the door off, cut the factory pin and beat the bushings out then press the new ones in. A sawzall will make quick work of it, besides that you just need a strong screwdriver or small pry-bar, a hammer, and patience.
Before getting involved with that, you might just try a shot of PB Blaster to the lock mechanism in the door. You'd be surprised how effective a little shot of "juice" will go for fixing 18-year old latch. That alone may git 'r done!

The striker bolt is supposed to have a plastic sheath around it. If years of door closures have worn this sheath away, then the door will likely not shut tightly. Replacements are available. BTW, that striker bolt is screwed into the door jamb, not the door itself. The plate behind the jamb may be adjustable, but you shouldn't need to adjust it. Replacing the hinge pins (as above) might help if you currently need to SLAM the door to close it. Your outer rubber door seal may be FUBAR'd.
If none of these things help, then your cab is probably tweaked in some way, causing the door to not seal when closed.

Thanks guys, I have only owned my 93 f350 since Christmas and the drivers door has never shut well unless you slammed it. It was starting to drive me crazy. After searching and reading this thread I went out and looked and sure enough the plastic sleeve on the door striker was gone. $8 later at O'riley's I pick up this
Dorman Door Striker Pin
PART#: RB38448
MFR#: 38448
It takes a #50 torks socket and after a little adjustment my door now closes nice and smooth with no rattle or slamming. Best 20 min fix so far on the truck. This site rules.

1993 F-150. My doors have been rattling since I bought the truck 5 years (5,000 miles) ago. I finally got the striker adjusted to where the door wouldn't rattle but they had to be slammed to shut completely. The doors do not sag and there is no hinge wear.
Last night I was searching for door adjustment and ran across this thread. I didn't know the striker should have a plastic bushing! I went to O'Reilly's today to buy 2 Door Striker Bolt Assemblies at $8.99 each. I found a "Striker Bolt Bushing Kit" for $3.99. The kit has 4 bushings, 2 short and 2 long. The 2 long bushing are an exact match of the bushings in the Door Striker Bolt Assemblies!
Got home and installed and adjusted the striker bolts. No more door slamming or rattling.
The Dorman Help "Striker Bolt Bushing Kit" part number is 38424.

Btw, the plastic body of a regular crayola water washable marker from your childhood makes for a perfect replacement for that plastic striker bushing, don't know about longevity yet but it fits perfectly in a pinch and i bet you have one lying around...save yourself the eight bucks and trick to the auto parts store
