A Couple of Quick Dash Fixes Needed

As I posted earlier today the new to me 2001 is home with me, however there are two annoying dash items that I want to remedy ASAP. One is the auxiliary 12V power source next to the airbag shut off doesn't appear to have juice.......any thoughts on the best way to fix that bugger?

Second, the black plate that surrounds the headlight switchgear comes out easily, as in when I pull out to put on the fogs I have to hold the plate in, can I just epoxy this thing? Is there a better fix?

So far everything else appears good........

Thanks a ton........

Steve

Check all your fuses with a test light for the plug.

I wouldn't epoxy the headlight switch in. Is the plate loose on the bottom or top? It has clips that make it snap into place. Pull the plate all the way out and let's figure out if it's something on the top or bottom that's broke and we'll try to figure out how to fix it.

Awesome, thanks.

I'll check through the fuses tomorrow when I get home (provided it isn't raining again).......

As far as the head light assembly goes, it is loose on the top, the whole thing pulls away.

I'll have to look at the back of mine to see what's broke on yours. The top usually slides in first and the spring clip that keeps it locked in place is on the bottom.

On my 99 switch there are two red slide locking tabs that must be put in after the switch is installed. (think of it like a .50 mod would do for UVCH clips) If the slide tabs are not in there there is not enough outward force on the other tabs to hold the switch in the hole. since mine is a 99 it is only a three position switch (off, parking lights, and on) and a dimmer. So your switch may be different.

check and see if the front "plate" of your headlight switch is separated from the rest. Mine is broke and is the same way as what your describing.

Its a fuse for the power issue, under dash fuse box, but I cant recall the fuse. It also powers your OBD port as well.

The other, find a junk yard switch from a 2000-2001, they changed the switch in 2002 and in 1999 they did not offer the fogs...

It might be the socket itself. I had to replace mine cuz the contacts were worn and broken beyond repair. I think i paid $12 for a replacement thru the dealer.

Thanks guys. I'll check out fuse 30 and 35 when I get home, if that isn't it, I'll look into a replacement socket.

Mine too, at first I used light dabs of Super Glue, this allowed me to remove the cover for service if necessary without destroying it. I finally took the whole assembly out and fabricated the housing to fit my dimmer that came with my Isspro gauges. The small retaining nut on the dimmer switch now holds my cover on.

So it isn't the fuse, the element in the #3 fuse is still good. Nothing else in the "area" is not working per se as far as power goes.

Any other ideas before I just swap out the outlet?
