Column shifter issue

Im starting to have problems with my shifter on my 98 Expy. When I shift into park it sometimes doesnt catch and the truck starts to roll when I release the brake. Also often times I have to put the trans into neutral in order to start the truck.

I took the dash and column apart today to get a better look and it seems that the shaft that connects the shifter is loose and is moving side to side. It seems that the bushong on the second mounting strap wore out and is allowing the movement.

Anyone else have this problem? Does anyone know what that part is called and where I can get one?

Worn out shift tube bushings is a pretty common failure.

You should be able to find a writeup in one of the F-series sections if there isn't one in this section, the shifters are all pretty much the same.

There are a couple torx screws that come loose. If you lay on floor and look up under column you should see them. Had to tighten on my dad f-150, one had fallen out on to the floor.

These are two common issues. You can swap the upper bushing with the lower one and also tighten the 2 torx screws and will be much better.
