OT: Rest in peace my friend....

It is always tough letting a best friend go...

Dusty
March 1st, 1994
April 23rd, 2010

For the last 16 years she has been my faithful friend, companion and protector of my family. Her and her sister Misty rode in boats with me, back of trucks, chased deer, coyotes and anything else I would tell them too. Dusty has a heart of gold and was as gentle as a baby with small children, cats and anything smaller than her. Unless it was a tennis ball, squeak toy or empty water bottle then it didn't stand a chance. Age and unfortunately, tumors, growths and failing hips made it time to let her live a pain free life so it was time to call the vet.

Rest in peace Dusty. You will always be loved and in my mind. I will see you again someday. Thank you for being my friend and companion.

A good dog will stay with you for life and will bring you some of the best memories you can have.I have had to put down some great dogs and it was because they gave me everything they had while they were here.It is a shame they cannot live to be as old as humans.....Take care.

Sorry for your loss of Dusty. Im a dog lover, and have two JR's I cant imagine life with out a dog. My best friend lost his dog a few days back....it tears me up just thinking of the day I have to let go of my little companion....my prayers are with you and your family.
Here are two sayings that I keep....hope they help comfort you.

"For those who love dogs, it would be the worst form of a lie to call any place where dogs were banned "Paradise." Certainly no loving God would separate people from their canine friends for eternity"
Stanley Coren, dog psychologist

"I think God will have prepared everything for our perfect happiness. If it takes my dog being there in Heaven, I believe he'll be there"

It's one tough call to put a friend down. But like you said, you'll meet up again.

Man, that's a long life! My Lab will be 12, and he's still doing well. I'm gonna hate it when it's time to go home to the big doggy pen in the sky...

Ditto. I am just glad the vet was fast about it. I was holding her in my lap when he did his bit. But he was quick and since I wasn't actually looking, I didn't know it had happened until she was gone.

I know I will get over the grief part...but she will never be forgotten. Soooo many stories... Some funny as hell.

I have lost two great dogs...The first was my childhood dog, a shepard mix, Bear. I cried like a child when I had to put him down my dad was inconsoulable for two days as was I. The second was a beagle named Daisey Mae, the exwife got her in the divorce...it was like giving up my very own little girl. Hurts sometime to this day! About a month ago the Fiance and I got a beagle/basset hound mix. We both love her very much!

shepards average about 12yrs. 16 is definately longer than expected. But the way I see it... She lived a full and fat happy life. Although not as fat as her sister, (who I call my mini cow), but still a big girl.

That is a hard decision to make but for the better. You will have fond memories to look back on. We had to put down an old friend a few years ago, the first time for us. The vet who is usually very talkative didn't say a word. He did his duty and left. It's a good thing 'cause I couldn't talk either. Couldn't believe how it affected us.

I "do" dog rescue. Could you guess the breed?

We have a place called the Rainbow Bridge where dogs go to wait for you to arrive.
Look at the end of this page: English Springer Rescue America

If you are a Shepherd kind of person, hit up a shelter soon. There are very deserving ones that are being put down every day somewhere. The memory of Dusty won't go away, but it will help you through the grieving process and re-direct your emotions.
