2006 Ford F150 - No 4wd
Guys,
I have a 2006 F150 Scab 4wd. I was recently trying to pull some bushes out of the ground and when I pushed the 4wd button for traction, neither the high or low 4wd light would come on. I thought the lights might be burnt out, but I turned the truck off and the lights all flashed on when I started it.
Turns out, the truck slipped and I have no 4wd. I have owned this truck since new and have not beat on it all.
Needless to say, I am not happy. I am hoping Ford makes this right. I have had a few things fixed on the trucks by my local Ford dealer without any problems, I hope this is another.
Has anyone else had this problem?
Thanks,
Jeff

I've had no problems of the kind. If it is under warranty they should cover it. I had some transmission problems on my 4 at 50,000 miles or so. I had bought the ruck used but it was certified, so it carried the warranty to 75,000. It turned out being over $2,500 worth of work but all I had to pay was the $100 deductible. good luck

Usually if the light doesnt come on its the 4WD motor on the transfer case, it looks like i wiper motor. Give it a couplle taps with a hammer on the metal motor part of it and see if that works. If you dont use 4WD alot that motor can seize and do what your explaining. GIve it a try, hey its free!

Oh the marvels of modern electronics. That's why I like the old early 90's trucks. They were simple and reliable with the mechanical 4wd system. I had to replace the shift motor on my 06 as well. I do use 4wd every time I get the trailer out of the back yard so I don't rip out the grass from wheel spin. So far no more problems.

Perfect example of our throw away society. That motor was NOT worn out! How could it be? It was an electrical issue, and the stealership makes more money by replacing it rather than repairing it. Sorry for the rant. I'ts 5:00 p.m. here, and time for a little drinky-poo.

Thats a bummer you had to replace the shift motor. Sometimes you can get them to unstick and other times the hammer method doesn't work...

My 2006 XLT Screw did the same thing in Feb. but one tap on the 4x4 transfer case motor and not a problem since. I bought the new motor from dealer for $260 but have not replaced yet (i will before any snow falls). I use my 4x4 a lot and thought it is a little premature for this part to wear out, but I love my Ford truck and understand that sometimes there is some unexpected matainance cost.

Hey guys, Beating a permanent magnet motor WILL shatter the magnet and render your shift motor useless, Take it off and open it to see if its a) rusted b) bad brushes c) just gummed up. I know you all will probably disagree But I have been working on electric motors in millions of applications and every time i see marks on a side of one and find broken magnets ,,,,
