AC/Heater question

My 78 f250 has factory A/C. Now that its getting warmer, I've been using it some. It works but I noticed that out under the hood, there is a cable that operates a door inside the plenum. I can move it manually from under the hood but no setting inside th cab moves it. So my question. Which way should it be for summer? pulled in toward the cab or pushed out toward the front of the truck. I think it closes off the heater core but not sure.

I figure that was what it does. I have the vacuum switch on the heater hose and it does work. It shuts off the flow of water to the heater core. So that door would also close off the A/C core in the opposite direction right?

No...it just shuts off the hot coolant from the heater core.
