16-Inch Innie Rims - Tire Selection

Hi -

I have a set of original 16-inch "innie" 5-hole rims that came with my 1966 Ford F100 Custom Cab. I am getting the rims powder coated and am now looking for suggestions on what type of tires to install.

It is my understanding that these old innie rims require tube-type tires. Based on previous feedback, it sounds like radial tires are the way to go. Now I'm looking for a good quality source at a reasonable price.

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance...

I have the one-piece 8-lug 16-inch innies here. Not original to my trucks since they used a two-piece innie originally, but I don't use a tube at all.

My tires and wheels are on my 4x4 truck right now so maybe not the tire you'd want on a F100.

We have a '64 F100 with the same rims. It has 215/85R16 Yokohama's without tubes and they don't go flat so I would say they are fine.

Thanks for the feedback! I'm a little confused through... The tire guy that I've used for the past twenty years said that the rims will not work with tubeless tires. He seemed pretty adamant that tube type tires are required.

I just got my rims back from being powder coated. They look great!

Thank You,

try putting one tire on and just let it sit for a week , then check air p. maybe drive one around the block if it holds pressure

Give us a picture. I am assuming you have drop center one piece wheels as that is what most F100's would have had. If you have two piece ring lock rims, then yes, you will need tubes.
