I have a 2006 6.0. It has a Edge Platinum on it. I use it only in the mileage or tow mode. Recently when you go to start it the problems start. It sounds like it is only running on acouple of cylinders and it is blowing blue smoke. Once it straightens up it seems fine until you go to drive it. Once you start it has a hard time shifting unless you let off of it to allow it to shift. Once the trans. temp gets to 100 deg or more everything is fine. The truck will only do this once it has set for 6 or more hours and cools off. I am talking to Edge to see if there is a problem with it. I returned the Edge to stock mode and today it was better. Started fine no rough running and the trans shifted better. Truck only has 53000 miles on it. Any ideas? Would the EGR valve sticking cause any of this?
Sounds more like injectors to me. Try plugging the block heater in for at least 3 hours before you start it and make sure it's close to operating temperature before you drive it and see if that doesn't help. Tuning can make cold starts better or worse, depending on the tune. Cleaning the EGR valve won't hurt a thing either. What flavor of oil are you running?
Mine does the same thing sometimes. I am going to perform the FICM test to see if I need to re-solder some joints. Mine started doing it after I noticed that the pre-start injector buzz was not as loud. I'm suspecting that I have a voltage drop within my FICM.
