went to the brake shop today and was told the rear shoes look identical on the front and back of the drum and the only slight diffrence is the length in the two and you wouldnt notice the diffrence so the technician told me to measure the shoe putting the longer one as the front {lead} shoe and to make sure the doubler plates at the top of both shoes are facing outward ,he said i could bleed and adjust all day long and never get a pedal i am supposed to insure that this is done before i procced with anymore troubleshooting. if anybody would care to share their knowledge on the subject i am all ears
He is referring to the emergency/parking brake. He has several posts on the problem. I can see where this is confusing if you havn't been following his orginal post.
ON EDIT: Wrong ! I have the wrong brake problem. I believe his truck is an early 90's Model. Sorry for the confusion, I can't think straight today. No food, going to Dr. after work for complete physical......starving.
no john it is not a super duty its a 92 f-350 4dr crew cab with a 7.3 and 256k on the odometer and to make it complete it is a fully loaded welding rig. anyway thanks for the clarification on the brake shoes, however i am still puzzled why this would cause a no pedal situation the width of the shoe stays constant no matter how you put them in the drum and its only a slight diffrence in the lenghth and how exactely does the doubler plate at the top of the shoe do .does it act as a spacer?
It's been a while since I have looked at those brakes specifically but just make sure you have them adjusted up real good, and evenly. Doubler Plates?.......Believe that is what centers the shoes with the center of the axle?
Also could it be possible your master cylinder has gone Kaput?
If it is finished then you will have no pedal unless you pump the brakes quickly.
the master cylinder has been changed when this problem began and it was bled several times with a vacum pump. the doubler plates i am referring to are at the top of the shoe on both sides of
the emergency brake pivot point and it says "this side out" on it. could installing themwith this plate facing in cause a no pedal scenario.the shoes are symetrical with each otherexcept the rear shoe is a tad longer.
the abs light dosent come on except for startup then it lights momentarily, and i was having this problem before i changed out the pads, shoes, and master cylinder,so i find it difficult to believe i would have installed the brakes incorrectly,so i am really looking elsewhere for the cause
