I just called my Ford dealer and he said the Ford custom accessory is the same as this hitch from Reese. Signature Series 24K Fifth Wheel Trailer Hitch by Draw-Tite and Reese Reese Fifth Wheel 40259

If you watch Mike Rowe's video here: YouTube - fordtrucks's Channel you see at 39 seconds into the video it is the same design.

If this is the case, the 5th wheel Reese hitch is rated at 24k (or higher). Since Ford is advertising a 24,400 lb capacity on a dually F450, they may have a custom design which is slightly higher capacity than this one from Reese.

I wouldn't say he is reading to much into the math, if it only says 304miles to empty and it's a 30 gallon tank that is no where near 18mpg. that is a huge selling feature to me if it doesn't get as good or better then my 7.3 i'll be keeping this truck for a very very long time cause i'm never going to buy a 6.4 or 6.0. was really hoping these new 6.7's are very reliable and good on fuel cause i don't want to have to buy a duramax... someone with one of these 6.7's needs to hand calculate there fuel mileage to see how close it is to the computer.....

The poor mileage of the 6.4L is the sole issue that kept me from getting a new truck over the past 3 years. Having said that, we shouldn't jump to conclusions based on a single dash photo on a new truck with its first tank of fuel. The press events where reporters were hammering on the trucks for several days all reported mileage in the high teens and twenties. I am sure those were well broken-in units that were carefully tuned for mileage performance. I have a lot of confidence in those reports as I have a friend who actually participated in one of them and reported very positive things.

Even the Ford video that shows the mileage comparison showed the SD getting 21mpg with mixed driving.

Bottom line, the new WAY better trans, urea injection, lighter weight and more precise tuning is going to produce the expectations of at least 18% improvement. Worry not, my friends.

I have lots of friends with dodges and the only thing good on those trucks is the engine the rest of the truck is total junk.

also with a good tuner a 6.4 can get good mileage. over at one of my favorite diesel sites, dieselbombers.com there are quite a few guys getting in the 20s for mpg from a 6.4. I mean stock they suck a lot of fuel but it seems those tuners just wake everything up, tranny, power, and mileage ha.

are you talking about taking the DPF filter out of them? or leaving it in and just putting a new tune on the truck?

taking off the dpf and getting a tuner like spartan. The spartan is expensive but you get like 10 tunes from mild to wild including a 310hp tune which is dyno tested to like 550hp or something like that.

This is just what I have read and been told. One of the guys that has a dpf free spartan tuned 6.4 says he gets 24 mpg regularly on the highway. That is a reg cab long bed srw.

Where did you find that info on the hitch. If that price is correct, what a rip off!! I am looking to trade in my 05 this year and was excited to see the 5th wheel hitch option. Considering you can buy a regular 16K hitch for around $350 dollars I will probably just have regular bedrails installed and use my old hitch. The truck is expensive enough then having to pay $1700 for another special damn hitch is rediculous. I am pretty sure most others will do the same.

Where did you come up with $1700 for the hitch? Just wondering. I have seen the factory option somewhere around $400-$500. That' just the plate for the fifth wheel and gooseneck receiver. Not sure about the fifth wheel hitch price.
