Have you hugged your kid today......

Had a very bad day here today. My son was Life Flighted by helicopter from my house today. He still lives with the wife and I ( he's 30) and has been a Type 1 diabetic since he was 8 years old. I went up to his apartment ( he has the whole upper floor in our house) at 11:00 this morning to get his help and he was unconscious. He had gone into a diabetic coma.........Dialed 911 and the paramedics where here in 10 min. They gave him an IV and still could not get him to respond. 1 hour later he was taken by helicopter to The Dalles. He did not regain conscious untill 6:00 this evening. He is fine now and will be home tomorrow. We've been dealing with this for over 22 years now, but this was by far the worst reaction he has ever had.

Thanks for listening to my rant guys. I just had to get this day off my chest..............

Don, don't know what to say. Can't express it. We're thinking good thoughts. Understand a little about the situation/ event, have friends with same condition.
For the area emt's did good along with everyone else, thank all the powers/gods,etc.
When you get him home you'll need to remind him that you are progressing in years and such antics can put a serious crimp in future fishing trips/ shop projects, etc.Maybe a stern lecture will suffice "no more of this type of thing"
Safe trip when you go get him and return. We'll see you later in the week. Jeff and family

Well the day is almost over, and you're home getting your son settled. Your trip was uneventful and safe. It's now time to wind down, relax some, and know that tomorrow will be a good day. All are well.
This is my wish for you. Jeff

Thanks for all your support guys. My wife and I appreciate the prayers, and good thoughts.

We have him home now and he is sore but OK. We think the reason for the attack was his change in work habits. His job went from 5- 8hr days to 4- 10 hour days. He came home really tired on Thursday and told us he wanted to sleep-in on Friday to rest up for our trip to Portland Sat for the swap meet. He was used to getting up at 0400 with me and having breakfast. He didn't get up till 0600, and just took a leak and went back to bed. He didn't have enough food in his system to handle the Insulin shot he took the night before and it sent him into a diabetic coma.

This was the first "bad" reaction he's had since 2003, and even that one he didn't have to go to the hospital, the paramedics gave him an I'v and he was Ok. Melody and I have been dealing with this since he was 8 (he's now 30...) and it is a horrible thing for a child to go through. It just turned him tougher though, and he's turned into a good man. One I'm proud to call a friend....... even if he wasn't my son.

That is great to have that kind of relationship with your son. I hope I have the same.(only 1 month old)
Seems to me like you and your family have had your share of trials and tribulations, but have stuck thru it as a family, and I wish there were more people like all of you.
Thanks for letting us know he is ok.
