I just found a sweet deal on a '93 E350 box truck with a diesel. It's too late to call the guy, so tomorrow I will find out more info like mileage and rust. $800 is a heck of a deal for a garage on wheels!
My big concern is the E4OD automatic. If its got high miles and the auto starts slipping, I have a 6.9 bellhousing/flywheel/2wd T19 from my '85 6.9 F350. I also have the clutch/brake pedal assembly.
The flywheel is off a 6.9, any big deal for bolting a 6.9 flywheel onto a 7.3?
Bellhousing is self-explainatory. Starter is self-explainatory. Transmission/clutch is self-explainatory. Cutting the floor pan is no big deal either.
Pedal assembly....anybody know if the F-series pedal assembly is similar to the E-series?
Last obstacle will be a driveshaft, but a good driveline shop could take care of that for me.
I have all the parts for the standard swap = $0 investment
Buying and installing a used E4od = $300 ballpark
Thanks guys for the help, I appreciate it.
Nope rhe top was the same you just cut the shifter off a few inches above the top of the case.
Lots of step vans came with either the 300 6 or 4bt cummins and T18 combo.
Are vans in this era available with manual transmissions?
Yes, they were.
The newest one I have seen was a 99 V10 5 speed E350. Very rare, its the only one I'v seen and the owner said it was a speical order.
He insisted it was factory though.

Reason: grammer
I have the brake/clutch pedal assembly in the basement, I'll see if I can mount the set in there.
Main question is the flywheel...is it balanced or something?
I don't think the shifter would be all that far back though...the doghouse cover for the back of the engine sticks out, then add the bellhousing depth, and transmission length. The T18/T19 shifter is basically in the center of the top cover. I assume the shifter would end up basically right next to the seat. The shifter cane would need to be bent up straight.
Here's the rig I'm looking at: Ford Box Truck
Gonna call him tonight for the details...
Great idea!
The whole thing came about because I wanted to put a 12' or 14' box on my F350 Long Wheelbase for a "Garage on Wheels" for my landscape equipment (mowers, trimmers, etc.)
I found a few local boxes going for $500 each...
But Geez, $800 for a box with a truck under it is more cost-effective.
I could also buy this rig, put this box on my F350, and sell the rest to re-coop some of the costs.
Thank you for the opinions guys.
