I was browsing today. I am waiting on them to put out a truck with molded fender flares on it with a big lift. They are teasing me by not putting it out yet.
Anyway, I found an under hood toolbox for my dad, filled with sockets and wrenches. Five bucks!
I also found a 1975 Granada coupe with a 351 windsor, automatic, a/c,and non emissions. The inspection decal was from 2008. It has AARP stickers on the windows along with AAA road service and police supporter stickers.(this tells me very old people)
Everything under the hood looks to have been replaced. The block is painted yellow with a black intake and valve covers.(this tells me it has been pulled out and replaced or rebuilt) The carb, alt, water pump, and distrib are remanufactured replacements. The plug wires are new along with the belts and all the a/c under the hood. The radiator and hoses look to have been replaced also.
I pulled the carb and looked into the intake. (very clean, no crud) I also pulled the #1 plug and looks in real good shape. The car overall is in nice condition. I can buy the whole motor with carb, starter, and all brackets and hardware for $170.00 out the door.
I am going to bring my jump box to spin the motor over and do a compression check. Right now it seems a little hard to pass up. I saw no grease or oil on the motor. I do not know about underneath though. I want to check the rear end also to see if it is a 9 inch, disc or drum, and maybe positive traction.
Does anyone think it would be a good idea to get? I have always been a little gun shy of junkyard motors.
I was always brought up to shy away from junkyard motors, but by the way you describe it,it's definitely a hard decision. And that price is pretty goodcompared to some of the yards i've been to.What would you do with the motor if you got it?
I know what you mean when u say your gunshy. I dont think 170 is that bad at all. If I needed it and wanted a 351 id get it.
Yeah, I can get it with a 30 day warranty for 195. I just will not have it ready to go in 30 days.
We just got a 90 model straight six from a van there in similar condition. It was all ford original with 69,000 miles. Dust only on the motor. It had 1 bent pushrod. My friend replaced it and we installed it last weekend. I have never seen a motor run as good as this one is running. He is on this site, goes by "clean 91".

I have a 79 supercab 2wd longbed F-150 with a 460. I am thinking of pulling the 460 and replacing it with a 351 windsor with either a zf 5 speed or a 4 speed overdrive. It will be my new work truck. I do a lot of driving and want a little better mileage than the 460 offers.

I'd say go for it then,it'd be alot more practical than the 460.And if it does turn out to be bad,you won't be out too much money.Hopefully the motor is as good as you describe.Good luck with it if you get it.
I know this is a bit off topic, but does anyone know how rare the "Ford" grille gaurd is? I bought on from a guy in the trading post and since then (Year and a half ago) still haven't seen but one other one and it was on this website somewhere. Any ideas? and sorry for being
I am heading out to the yard now. I am taking a compression tester with me to see what the numbers look like.
Built ford tough, they have a truck like yours sitting in the take in lot that I am waiting to see in the yard. I want to see what it has. They have been holding it awhile now. They also put a centurion conversion F-350 bronco with a F.I. 460 out the other day.
Someone went over the motor after I left yesterday. They cut the hood release cable and shut the hood.
The air cleaner, distributor cap, rotor, half of the plug wires, and kickdown rod were gone.
I looked in the car next to it and found most of the stuff in the trunk.
The air cleaner was in another car behind it.
I sure am glad I pulled the carb yesterday and stashed it under a truck between the muffler and bed.
We pulled the motor out and bolted the starter back on the flexplate, put the distributor back together, installed the air cleaner, and put the mounts back on the motor. Everything out the door was $173.00.
This motor will be very nice. I pulled the valve cover and the heads are brand new. The oil pan had been replaced with a deep forward sump pan and aftermarket dipstick. I will have to swap it though for a rear sump pan and oil pump. I could not get the jump box to work but turned the motor by hand. I think the compression is fine. I stopped turning it once and the pressure backspun the engine nearly breaking my hand.
