How long does factory battery last

Going into 5th year on original MOTORCRAFT battery and it works fine, but generally speaking, after 4 yrs of Canadian winters, a battery doesn't owe you anything.

Debating whether to change it this Summer or try to push it to a 5th or 6th year.

Would YOU change it at this point??

I have a 2004 with the original battery. The truck only has 64,000 miles on it, but the battery is still 6 yrs. old.

Same here. I have 77,000 km on my 04 and not a problem yet. I am sure its getting close to change it out though.

where I live, I'd keep going until the battery died.

up in your neck of the woods though...yeah, a nice Interstate battery with a minimum of 850 cca seems like a nice safe insurance policy

My '02 Ford van was built in June of '02 and the original battery went in September '09, over 7 years.

My wife's '98 Sable had the original battery in it until 2005, when I changed it out because I did not want her getting stranded.

This is in the Detroit area, where we have winters...

I believe the Motorcraft batteries are made by Johnson Controls and my last 2 have been great.

Replaced mine last month (04 lariat). Drove to the gym, came out and it was dead, so dead a jump start was hard to get it going. Replaced with a Napa 880 cca for a $100.00. Five years up north....no complaints.

04 with 72,000 miles and original battery. Granted, being from texas it hasn't had temperature extremes like you have. When it goes I'll probably put another motorcraft in it, which will probably be right after I post this.

Yes, absolutely! From what I hear the MotorCraft Batteries give you No warning when they go! They just go!

That's interesting. I thought I would keep this battery until I needed a new one but now I may consider getting a new one this summer.

all comments considered, I think I'll pick up a new MOTORCRAFT, and sell the old one on the newsgroups for a few bucks to some kid with an old truck while the battery still has some life.

Thanks boys!

7 years has always been what I perceived to be the max with motorcraft, even with Minnesota winters, but with that said, mine gave up the ghost after only a year of service.
