Talking 38 gallon rear tank!!!

So I just filled up for the first time today since installing the tank.

Held 39.2 gallons to the cap!!!!!! Front held 18 to the cap and still had 2 or 3 gallons in it. So that means 60ish gallons of fuel capacity UNDER the truck. Getting an aux. tank built into the in-bed toolbox that'll hold another 50 gallons as we speak. Only going to be stopping to wet the tires on roadtrips now!!

I did the vent mod to both tanks at the same time. Used DzlJim's writeup except the ford roll-over vents I used take a 3/4" hose. Never have I EVER filled up an OBS with such ease before!! No fuel spitting back. No holding the nozzles sidways on the slowest setting!!

Anyway, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED to anyone that always cusses when filling your OBS up like I used to. I stress... USED TO!!!!

The down side...

It now costs me $180 for a near full fillup

hahaha nice, that 60 gallons would last me 2.5 weeks haha and thats if I drove everyday. See I've never had the vent mod problem, I run the nozzle on full tilt until she is filled up and then I give her a good couple shakes and it bubbles down some and I can usually get another dollar into it. But my cousins truck used to do it real bad, wonder if its a difference between 95 and 97

Mine is a pain to fill up... did the vent mod on the front last week though. Havn't filled up yet though.
My rear tank has a leak, swapping in the 38 gallon tank in about 2 weeks.

Ya my front one isn't too bad but my rear sucks. I think there is like three speeds on those pumps, if I set mine on the second and put the filler at just the right distance in it will work. Granted this is on a slow diesel pump. It really sucks at the big rig pumps.

Got a link to the filler mods? Sounds like it is worth the time to do

Go to www.dzljim.com and click on his fuel neck mod about halfway down the page. Best write-up I've seen.

One change though, on his he is using the roll-over valves from a cab and chassis truck with bigger openings. Well Ford can't get them anymore and I couldn't find them anywhere else either. So you either need to use a brass elbow/fitting to replace the rollover valve, or find a cab and chassis truck in a junkyard.

I'm contemplating adding a rear tank cuz that scrawny little front tank just aint cuttin' it. How much did that set you back?

Good info on the fuel neck mod variation. Tried to rep ya, but gotta spread the love around first. I wish they'd get rid of that requirement.

You mean like this?
38 gallon tank install

Tank runs about $185 shipped to you.
Basically a direct swap, with some minor tweaking and modding, just becasue nothing is ever easy in life.
