What do you expect to be told when asking in the 7.3 forum?

We all love ours, and very few would trade for a 6.0.

But it all depends what you want it for.

6.0's make more horsepower when stock.

7.3's are more reliable when stock.

So, "better" is a kind-of-relative thing.

I agree with Pop, but to shed some light on why I agree I will list some + and -

The 7.3 is one of the last true medium duty engines produced. the 6.0 is classified as a light duty diesel.

the 7.3 is also one of the last unrestriced emissions (except for programming) diesels produced. The 6.0 has an EGR cooler that tends to build up soot and coke in the turbo and the cooler itself causing the head gaskets to let go at usually the most inopertune times.

The 6.0 has stiction issues with injectors.

We have seen more million mile 7.3's than we have 6.0's, that is not to say that they are not out there, Im sure they are, but you just dont hear about them.

While the 7.3 has always had a stigma about the CPS, it is a cheap and easily replaced part on the side of the road, where as a VGT turbo on the 6.0 is not.

the 7.3 is a less complicated engine than the 6.0, and is easier to work on.

the 7.3 is not meant to make big power. It was manufactured for durability. About 400 HP is the top for a reliable daily driver, and it takes a good bit of money to get to that point. a 6.0 can make 400hp with just a tuner and a turbo swap.

Ford rushed the 6.0 and the first few model years were plagued with problems. The later model years 06-07 were actually decent motors that alot of people have had good luck out of.

Only in the 05 and up models. 03 and 04 were still leaf sprung, and not coils

The 6.0L can be a good engine, but they are a smaller displacement, higher revving engine; to me, exactly what a diesel shouldn't be.

For comparison, I saw a guy's numbers with a 6.0L, right around 500hp/720tq; my last numbers with stage 1 single shots and custom tuning(everything else "stock") I was at 325hp/735tq. the 6.0L had close to 175 more HP than I did, but I still had more torque. There's a lot of variables that go into that; the dyno each truck ran on, etc.

I've always know it as; torque is the amount of work you can do, horsepower is how fast you can do it. I'd rather have more torque so I can pull the heavy loads around the farm than an engine that can spin fast and make the truck go fast.

If you feed the trolls, it just makes them bigger and stronger.

Just out of Curiosity

How do you guys rate the 6.4 to the 6.0 and the 7.3? Ford is making some sweet deals on the 2010s because they are getting ready to deliver 2011s with the new 6.7. The 6.7 sure sounds good on paper but when hasn't Ford marketed a new engine as the next best thing to sliced bread?

I was tempted to test drive a 2010 but I was concerned that I may not have enough self control and would buy it on the spot.

Here's the reason I don't like the 6.4.

This is how you work on the motor

These pictures were taken so a fuel pump could be replaced
