Carb gasket burned up???

I rebuilt the carb on my 86 f-150 with 351 HO. The intake to spacer gasket was burned up around the right 4-barrel opening. 300 miles later the new gasket also burned up in the same area. I am currently running with no gasket. Any ideas of what is causing this???

Does the intake spacer have the inlet for the EGR? If that's the case, you will have to find an aluminum gasket for that interface. Exhaust gases are very hot, and will burn up paper gaskets in no time.

On the EFI cars, the EGR inlet is right behind the throttle body, and Ford runs coolant through it to help remove some of the heat.
