As some of you may know I bought my '97 F-350 Crew 4x4 Long Box 7.3L 4 weeks ago.
Last night I filled the tanks to get ready to drive to Iowa on Saturday, I put in 21.3 gallons and had driven 356 miles. This is only the second time I put in fuel in it.
I week ago I install the 6637 intake, and have turned the radio down too many time while taking off from a stop sign etc to listen to the Turbo...
Plus my son said Saturday he was trying to make some black smoke and all he could get was some white smoke from the tires....
Saturday I am hauling some Cub Cadets to Iowa for a Plow Day !!! I'll again check the mileage, i'm pulling a trailer with 4 Cub Cadets so approx 3500 pounds. My dad was wondering if we should be 3 or 4 and I said the truck will not notice the difference...
Maybe 1-2 mpg less depending how hard you try and pull it.
Floor it with that load behind it, and hear the whistle then!
Last tank I got 17.3 mpg, and I have a fuel leak, lol.
Glad to see you're enjoying your 7.3L Power Stroke!
Do you have a 5-speed or an Auto?
I am going on 900 miles since my last fill up now.
I have an extra hundred gallons in the bed though with my farm tank. I just keep road diesel in it because I got tired of DOT stopping me to check my tanks when the filter on the pump was red.
I usually get about 20 but this winter its been down to more like 16 or so. This winter fuel just sucks!
Please see my last post.........https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/9...e-but-how.html...... And please switch over to Mobil turbo diesel 5w40 synthetic and see if you get the same big increase in MPG as I did. I still don't believe it.
I do recall people using it year round. I think Madvan is one of them. I think the viscosity of the oil depends on temp so the 5w 40 will be heavier in the warmer temps. Bit of a guess on that one. Madvan, you out there!!??
i got around 11 mpgs when towing my 2 car trailer loaded. well that was on my last trip. i haven't hit the scales when loaded but my last trip i had a dodge dakota and a chevy cavalier on it and trailer weighs 2900 lbs. empty. not too bad i guess. what do you guys think? does that sound decent?
I was getting around 16-16.5 this winter. My commute is about 20 miles one way, mostly highway. The thing that kills my mileage the most is that it's not a single 20 mile stretch. Lots of 3-4 mile stretches before turning or going down and back up the river valley.
Now that the winter fuel junk is finally gone, I've been getting around 17-18mpg. Last weekend was a 150 mile round trip all highway, mostly doing 65 mph. I got 20.0 on that trip. That was before I did the 10K mod. So far, the 10K doesn't look like it's doing much.
I run Rotella 5w-40 full synth. I also put 8oz. Diesel Kleen to about 12 gallons in my tanks. Runs and idles very smooth. 226K miles on her. I've taken the fan out and I still have my winter cover on (but flaps opened up) and radiator covered. Haven't seen ANY issues with excessive temps.
since the warm weather finally came around and i deffeinly noticed an increase in mileage fromthe switch for diesel fuel. inthe winter when i bought the truck i was seeing230 miles max out of a 15 gallon tank. i got 264.7 miles out of a 15 gallon tank driving like a jerk, mostly town miles and its very consistant. and thats with a fuel leak! thats about 17.5~mpg leaking fuel! cant wait till i fix my fuel bowl.
