Talking Ranger Bed and Gas tank

Hello Everybody,

I have a 97 Ford Ranger, I want to do some mods to the truck.
1) Change the truck bed from fleetside to stepside.
2) Once changed can I add a second gas tank to the truck. And what needs to be done to make it work.
3) And has anyone attempted this idea?

The bed swap should be easy to do provided you have a short bed. I believe the step side was only available in a short bed length. The fuel filler hose may also be shorter than your original, so you may need the hose from the step side bed too. For your extra fuel tank, it may need to be custom. However, some of the early Rangers of the mid 80's had a second gas tank, but only on long bed models. They fit between the rear axle and spare tire. You might be able to modify one to fit your idea but then it might interfere with the spare tire mount.

I believe the rear bumper is narrower also on the stepside models.
