checking auto trans fluid ?

On my 01 Diesel auto I noticed a leak coming from the front of the tranny. The fluid level was approx 1 inch over the full mark when the truck was cold and not running. Two dealers have told me this is normal. Thoughts?

Thanks, Bill

Look at your owners manual on how to check the fluid level. Drive the vehicle to normal operating temp. Put tranny in park or neutral (Set brake). NOW check the fluid level. Remove stick. wipe with clean rag, re-insert stick, remove and check.

Ditto on checking the fluid on hot and running transmission. Do it after at least 1/2 hr trip.
BTW avoid those dealers in the future.

You might have to climb up under the truck to see where the leak is coming from. I just replaced my cooler lines because they spontaneously started leaking.
