Lift Kit Education Time???

Guys I have a 76 f150 4x4 with stock suspension. I would like to run 33s on my truck and I was wondering what lift I need. Truck has 31s with no issues. Primary use of the truck will be towing and a little off road fun... Okay let me have it, sound off and educate me on the world of 4x4s...

On topic: If you're running 8 inch wheels, 33's will fit just fine without any lift. 35's will fit if you mount them on stock wheels. I'm assuming your truck is on a sloping drive.....and doesn't really sit that much higher in the rear??

Yeah its sitting on a slope. So if I get some of the polished bronco stock rims with 33s I should be okay... now to just get a set of those rims...

How wide are your wheels? If they are 8's, you should be fine.

Like HD said you could mount 35's on there as the truck sits as long as you don't mind the "stuffed fender" look, i personally prefer the look of having at least 4-6" between tire and fender on a 4x4 so a 2-4" lift with either 33's or 35's would set it off just right imo.

im running 35s on 15x12.5 wheels no problem on my 78 f150 4x4. but i am getting a 4 inch lift, basically bc i like lifted trucks. doing shackle flips in the rear and coil spring lift in the front, with a trac bar drop and new shocks. NEVER lift the rear with blocks, as axel wrap is easier to do so with blocks, and with towing, i wouldnt recommend it. and the shackle flip can actually increase ride quality. getting my shackle from ruffstuffspecialties.com and all other components from broncograveyard.com

What year Bronco are those off of? I tried running a set of rims off an '88 Bronco on my '77 and they didn't fit on the front - they had too much offset and the tie rods were digging into the tires...

Might want to check and make sure they actually fit before you buy them... Bolt them down and, if the wheel is stuck and won't turn, they don't fit... Shouldn't have any problem on the rear - nothing to get in the way...

I had a 79 f100 with a 2 inch body lift (cut the blocks down an inch with a bandsaw) and ran 35-12.50-15 tires on offset 15x10 aluminum rims and they fit just fine without rubbing

I bought 2 1/2" lift coils and 2* (degrees) C-bushings for the front of my 77 F150 and I am running 255/85/16s on 16x8 no rubbing doing anything, and plenty of room for 35's (someday!)

Sorry to bump thread this old, and only sorta off topic...

Can you please tell me the details of your lift (spring mfg, steering correction, brake lines, etc.)? is it just the front coils that you changed or did you do anything to the back?

I only want a tiny tiny lift 1"-2" but I want the truck to ride level. All of the descriptions for the small lifts (skyjacker, rough country) are not certain of the lift their coils provide... Do you mind if I copy yours? Yours looks perfect!

I searched for a few terms to hopefully see a leveling kit or 1" or 2" lift thread but apparently I am not experienced enough to search the proper terms, sorry if this is is hashing ground covered in another thread.

Thanks!

Welcome to FTE.

These rigs were configured with a 2-inch rake so all ya gotta do is lift the front end to make 'er level. All it would need is 2-inch lift coils and the C-bushings... relatively easy to do. No need to change the steering links, pitman arm, and brake hoses.

Jeff's Bronco Graveyard offers a 2-inch "leveling" kit: https://shop.broncograveyard.com/2-L.../products/195/

And yes, Pickupmanx' rig is sweet!
I didn't even realize how old the thread was and was about to ask what year and color code (if stock) his paint color is. Hopefully they're still around and will see your bump.
Min '79 is factory cold, but pale and I never liked it. Lots of more modern golds I do like though, so don't necessarily have to change the whole color scheme to be happy.

Otherwise, what HIO Silver said. Just 1.5-2 inch lift in the front to level it out and you should be good to go. What year and model is your truck? And are you sure it's still stock?

One thing I always recommend with the Early Broncos, and it's not too bad of an idea with our trucks either, is to have the alignment checked before you take it apart for the lift. You want to find out what your caster readings are now, before the lift.
This will help you determine if you can benefit from even more offset in the C-bushings or not.

If you're still sporting the original rubber (zero offset) C-bushings then even the small 2° offset polyurethane bushings will help, but it's still nice to know because not all front Dana axles were created equal. If your truck has lower than expected caster currently, you could benefit from going to a say, 4° offset C-bushing instead.

Just wanted to throw that out there for you to mull over. Just like caster and ground wires, TMI-overkill is just enough!

Paul
