2005 6.0 exhaust residue question.

Hello, new to the forums here, I had a question regarding residue I noticed in my exhaust pipe.

Yesterday I had a 4'' silverlight exhaust installed on my 2005 6.0 F350. After the half hour drive back to my apartment, I inspected the exhaust and noticed a thick black/brown sludge in my exhaust pipe. I took note of this and went to inspect it again after the truck had cooled down for about an hour and noticed that the sludge had solidified into a hard plastic like mass.

Coolant levels were unchanged, oil was good too. I just had my fluids serviced at Brien Ford up here in Everett and they didn't bring up anything before this.

Do you have any ideas on what this might be?

It didn't get hot enough to burn it off..... 30 min of diesel running WILL build up sludge.....Go drive it at highway speed for an hour....or put it in Tow/Haul and it'll run at a higher RPM (until you get over 50 or so). Or - don't go looking at the inside of that exhaust pipe! LOL

It might just be soot build-up, although after I installed my new exhaust it took about 3 or 4 days for that to happen.

i belive that when they manufacture the pipes they use a oil to lube things up during the process and also to keep it from rusting or whatever. this oil is inside the pipes and as you run the truck and soot starts collectiong on the oil thats in the pipes. it would look like what you said. when i put on my MBRP system i saw the same thing but went away after a week or so.

i could be wrong on this but this is what i read on here when i first saw mine do it.
