here is another new one with the regens

My truck was flashed back in Dec with the newest flash wich eliminated the "cleaning exhaust filter" message from being on during regen. Well it worked fine until Wednesday. I'm pulling our 16k 5th wheel cross country from AZ to NY and yesterday all of the sudden the message started popping up every time it would go into regen. It has been going into regen about every 200 miles for the duration of the trip so far. Everything still works fine but I just thinks its weird that all the sudden the message has started coming up again. I made this same trip 2 years ago with my 99 F-350 and I can tell you the 08 is a total different animal. Mileage has sucked but its worth it for the pulling power!

Ok so now that I have unhooked the RV and am empty again its back to the normal operation. I did notice on the last day that it would start showing the message after the first long hard pull of the day. With RPM at about 3k and pulling a grade it would show and then stay on for about 15 miles and go off. The only difference I saw the last day was it acted normal a couple times but as soon as it had a hard pull it would do it again. I may be wrong but I think it has something to do with the rpm & load on it putting out enough soot to make it think it has to be in a active regen. I wish someone had some ideas on this before I have to take it in to the dealers.

happen to pick up a tank of LSD instead of ULSD fuel?

that would account for the abrupt change in soot volume..

No I watched for that. I did have to get some B-5 at one stop, but I still had a half tank so it was less than that. I just don't get why it would show the message when it isn't supposed to anymore. Other than that it is all normal, and now that I'm not hauling such a load it has went back to not showing it again.

I was surprised at the number of stations in Texas selling LSD. I didn't find ULSD on South Padre at all.

there is active and passive regens with the system. Sometime the EGT's can get up there enough to do the job for you. EGT's need to be up around 1200-1400 to do a passive regen.

Every 200 miles unloaded is what mine does. Every 100 when pulling a decent load. I don't have the latest flash yet so my message center tells me, stays displayed until it's finished. Usually takes 10-15 miles of interstate cruising to complete.

Your situation sounds just like mine, and, I believe it to be normal and no problems are present.

You can ask 10 guys about their regen cycles and get 5 different answers. But really, I don't see any "red flags" with your original post.

Mine isn't suppose to tell me anymore and it has started to show the message, thats the question I had. I wonder if this has happened to anyone else with the newest flash?

So you guys are saying that there is a second flash out there. My truck is an 08 job 1 that orginally never gave a regen message and I felt it was dangerous to not know when my truck was in regen. Like starting up a long grade pulling a heavy trailer or trying to merge onto a freeway and not having the power to do it. I could and did put my foot into it and the truck would blow a lot of white smoke and have no power, but only in regen. I solved my problem by trading that 08 350 swr for a 08 F450.

Yes there is another flash out there. I can't tell you what the date is for it but the dealer that i had taken my truck from downloaded it from ford after ford asked if it had the newest update in it.

Curious- do the techs automatically check for the newest flash, or do they only check it if you are having a problem? I have a job 3 08, and never had anything done to it. Only ever had it back to the dealer for state insp.

I can't really tell you for sure or not. My guess would be that they only do a reflash if there is a problem.

Much like the OP stated, I have the latest flash (according to Fords Oasis) an mine still shows that it is in regen for the entire time. It does it every 150-200 miles too. Does anyone know if it is possible for the reflash to have not taken and the tech not catch it?

Don't have any of those problems. I can see every regen on my EGT gage when they happen towing or not towing. Never noticed any significant loss of power when in regen. Don't know what is wrong with my 08 early job one truck.
