I did the 08 tailgate swap on my 04' f-250 and it seems the cables are too short! any one else have this issue while doing the swap? where or what did you do to make the gate level out? thanks again

Make sure you didn't put the cables in the wrong spot first too, honest mistake that can happen.

I am trying to get a dealership to do this for me on an '05 F350 with a busted up gate from a meeting with a 5'er that a bit too low. They said the '08 gate is 1/4" taller and would not fit right with a tonneau cover or shell. Are the step and non-step gates the same height?

Any confirmation from you guys that have done this?

the tailgates arent higher, but they do extend out farther.. so a hardcap/canopy from a older style truck wont fit, least not close properly.

the step or non step gates are dimensionaly the same.. with the step gate top plastic part extending out farther in the center then the non step.

no, you need to extend the reverse lite wires and i beleive the bulb pigtails need to be updated aswell..

newer taillites use a different bulb.

easy to do but def. not plug n play.

Nevermind, found it: http://superdutydiesel.com/wiki/tiki...p?articleId=50

Need a little help from the forum.

I bought a 2002 chassis that had a 2008 (or later) bed, but it had no tailgate and absolutely no tailgate hardware. No hinge posts, no cable anchors, no striker pin, no rubber bumper.

Well, I nabbed a 2010-11 tailgate off ebay, and the seller included the necessary hinge plate for the driver's side. I also found a wrecked F-250 (pre-Super Duty with 7 lug nuts) to get all the hardware from. You will not believe how hard it is to get salvage yards to part with that stuff. After calling 20+ salvage yards, I ended up driving 100 miles to one rather than paying $200+ at the stealership.

Well, now I can't get the tailgate to mount. The hinge plate from the wrecked F-250 (passenger side) is round, while the part on the late model tailgate is oblong.

Can someone take a pic of their passenger side tailgate hinge plate and post it for me? I need to know what kind of part I'm looking for.
