even my wife thinks something happened!!

a couple months ago i installed a new turbo wheel, 6637, ccv delete, guages, AIH delete, 4" turbo back exhaust, and had my TS teburned by tony. when i got all the mods done i reset the overhead mileage guage. ive drove about 3000 miles since and the guage as well as my calculations at the pump have always been right at 13 mpg. well since yesterday (about 120 miles) the mileage on the overhead console has gone up to 14.8 mpg. there has not been a change in driving habits or conditions. the only thing i can say is the injectors do sound a little quieter. im not complaining but i would like to know why. any ideas??

By upgrading your exhaust and intake, your truck is able to breathe better. What tune are you driving around in from Tony? I consider Tony's tunes better than the ones from TS. Several others here share the same opinion.

Of course relying on the overhead display for accurate MPG readings is not wise, especially when you have a chip that has changed the way the PCM operates. You really need to hand calculate your mileage for a true idea of what you're getting.

How do you like the power of Tony's tunes compared with TS?

Whenever you have a chip or a programmer installed such as a TS or a DP the reading for MPG on the lie o meter are no longer reliable.

sorry i didnt say but i leave it in the daily setting basically all the time. my calculations have always been within a tenth of a mile from what the console says. i like the tunes much better but its been cold and ive not had a chance to "play" much. not as much smoke as i thought, alot more before the reburn.

if thats the case is it just coincidence that the console and my calculations are always that close?

You have to recalculate after each tune is changed. Rick went from getting around 17 mpg's with his DP tuner to getting around 90 mpg's after his injector install and his new tunes from DP tuner. As you can guess, the new sticks and tunes didn't really help him that much, but it did make his computer very optimistic about mileage.

You need to do the math again with Tony's tunes.

I'm surprised noone has said this, but youre probably getting better mileage all of a sudden because of the change over from cold weather diesel fuel to warm weather diesel fuel at your station.

I was thinkin the same thing, but didn't want to say it...not real sure if there is a change between the season with diesel...i know there's something added to gas, you can actually smell it, but i didn't know there was an additive for us...

It's pretty common to notice at least 1 MPG increase when the summer fuel gets here. My guess is the fuel.

The gas is oxygenated during the winter, it is here, not sure what the winter blend diesel consist of but its definetly lower MPG's for me during the winter time.

I know they used to mix #1 with #2 to lower the gel points of diesel. #1 is kerosene I believe, #2 is diesel fuel. Straight diesel can get cloudy at around 40 degrees I believe if it has no anti-gel mixed with it. The cloudy look is wax crystals forming in the fuel that can clog a filter.

I remember seeing Rich's Whitebuffalo's thread on the freeze points of treated fuel, good to know, guess the kero thins it out a bit, makes sense.

I have heard of guys mixing a gallon of gas with diesel fuel back when I was a kid. I would never recommend doing that today! Kerosene has a lower BTU than diesel which is 1 reason for the lower fuel mileage in winter. I have heard the mixture is any where from 5% to 20% kerosene, depending on where you are in the country.

How big are your tires and are you correcting for them if you haven't re-geared? Are you lifted?
