1957-1960 4X4 Spicer 24 Mount and Crossmember
Guys,
Any of you have some pictures of the transfer case crossmember used to mount the Spicer 24 transfer case in the '57 to '60 trucks? I'm turning my 4X2 into a 4X4 so I'm curious what the factory original looks like.
The picture in my 57-63 ford truck master parts catalog is hard to interpret how it actually looks in real life.
Thanks much!
Nick

hmm. i havent looked at my frame for a really long time but i though that the were pretty much straight and flat on both of them when i did my swap. Both these trucks used the same transfer case (i think) though so it should bolt to either cross-member(i think again). maybe post some picture of the one you have to refresh my memory a little. Because i think i still have a extra out of a 62.

I put two pictures in my gallery. The only one that I had that showed the 62's chassis is looking from the back passenger side toward the front. If you look at the upper right side of the picture, you can see how the chassis slopes downward about 2 inches. That slope starts at the back edge of the crossmember and ends just ahead of the transfer case crossmember.
The 60's chassis is a straight line almost completely from front to back. The only place it dips is at the radiator support.

pictures tell a thousand words
I know I can cut and weld the newer crossmember and make it fit. I was really wanting to see what the factory setup looked like before just taking a stab at it.
I'm going to take a better picture of the '62's chassis tonight and post tomorrow. From the side, the slope is significant.

New Gallery Pics of 1962 4X4 Chassis
I got 4 new pictures loaded into my gallery. They are views of the transfer case crossmember. You'll be able to see that the transfer case crossmember is completely mounted in the sloping area of the chassis. The 1960's chassis is straight through the same section. The frame overall c-channel heights are also different.
Like I said earlier, it would be real cool to see what a 57-60's frame/crossmember looks like in that area before I got all wild with the torch and welder.

Have a few pictures for you, not very good, as I could not get in a good position to take them. The 60 has a very different setup than that of the 62 in your picture. It looks like the 60 has two crossmembers, and brackets that support the transfer case bolt to these crossmembers.

I have some more if these are not enough.
