2001 Transmission Slipping after flush

HELP! I feel like a complete idiot. I changed the fluid in my 2001 as preventative maintenance and now after the flush it slips. I used the correct fluid fort he year (DXIII - Mercron). Any advise on what to do? Will I damage the trans while driving - until I can get it to a tech? Any help would be appreciated! Thansk Dan

How many miles? Are you sure Mercon was the fluid that was in your tranny? Is it possible that a previous owner swapped over to Mercon V? Is the fluid to the full mark? Check this with the tranny up to temp. and idling in park on a level surface.

Well let me correct something. It was a drain and fill - not a flush. I am not sure if it was changed to V, I dont think it was ever changed. It has 85k iles. I will need to check the level, but I think if anything it might be slightly high as far as fluid level. I will check again here in a little bit.

Overfilling causes air bubbles which doesn't work well in hydraulic systems. I seem to remember somebody in charge of fleet maintenance saying that his transmission guy said that flushing can cause more problems than it solves with certain transmissions.

I agree with Bill about changing the fluid with higher miles. If it hasn't been changed before, I've heard that it can cause problems.
If it still slips after the fluid level is verified to be good, I would recommend taking it to a tranny shop and get their opinion. Maybe it will be a cheaper fix since you caught it fairly early. Good luck and keep us posted.

Sometimes when you have a transmission flushed they run a cleaning solvent through also. Good for well maintained transmissions bad for transmissions not maintained on frequent basis. The cleaning removes the varnish build up on the surfaces. On seals and seats that are worn to the build ups then they will develop bad seating and seals. Slippage is the symptom.

Just food for thought.
