normal boost pressure

i have a 6.9 diesel with an Allison AT545 4 speed auto, and i put a Banks Sidewinder turbo on it, my question is that i dnt get no turbo boost until i floor it, but when im just crusing at 45-55 mph, the boost gauge always reads 0, when i floor it it jumps to 7-8 psi, is that how it supose to work??? only when i floor it??

Pretty much, boost is really only generated under a load. Having an intercooler probably makes that even more noticable since it will lower your boost pressure.

How do you get away with a hood stack in california?

It will usually have a little just cruising it depends on how much power your using and how much fuel you are giveing it, most claim 3 or 4 on flat ground running fairly empty, this will vary with things like wind or any thing that takes more power to maintain speed.

With his gear ratio and tires, I'd be surprised to see any boost generated at cruising speed. When I cruise at 55-60 on flat land I'm only getting 1psi of boost. What's your rpm at 55mph?

Dayum I just looked at his gear setup,I agree 100% with you. I don't know what my IDI runs empty, I'm thinking not much (no guage) but was going by what others have posted. All my big trucks runs very little at cruising speed light throttle.

Sounds like a boost leak to Me. The common culprits are the intake hat hold down bolt and the intake hat/intake seal.

You should see a coupla lbs at cruise. My Sidewinder shows 5 psi @ 1400 RPM cruise.
