I found a low-mileage powerstroke to put in it for $1500.00 and bought it. It was running perfect in the other truck(rust bucket). I drove the truck about 3hrs. to get it home with no problems at all. With the help from friends we got it installed and running. Now when it gets warm it stumbles at highway speeds when you step on the go pedal very hard at all. It does not do this with a chip I had lying around that I installed. I left the chip in it and the DD drove it back to her college campus 31/2 hrs. away with no problems. She said it ran perfect besides her having to be careful not to smoke the tires when she lets off of the clutch. I've looked for loose wires, checked fuses etc. Any Ideas? The DD loves this truck but she doesn't like having to be so careful with the chip in it and would rather not have it.
What year powerstoke did you find to put it in, and which PCM are you using? Sounds like the wrong PCM for the motor but the chip might have the right programming.
Either that or the chip is masking a problem you will soon discover.
Both trucks are 96, F-350, 4x4, ZF_5sp's. I've tried both PCM's and they both do the same thing. I didn't splice any wires and made sure that all of the connectors are firmly connected. The part that really puzzles me is that the chip is made for an auto tranny, if that matters when putting it into a manual truck.
When she comes home next week I thinking about changing the whole engine harness. I agree that the chip is probably masking the problem.
