48 F1 Axle setup, Brake info wanted...needed (help)

I'm putting a 1948 Ford F1 axle under a custom car I'm building. I guess it's a 48-52 axle..(it's still in the mail...)I'll just have axle and spidles so far. Need to know a few facts....

1. Are the spindles on the f1 truck same as the cars of same era?

2.Will need hubs also, f1 same as car? Correct years? New ones available?

3. Want to buy complete front drum brakes, (backing plates to drums) what's best source? Need to look stock, so not finned
drums. What year "fords" or new markets will work. Perfer about 10" (11" may work) setup.

4. Making right hand drive, any ideas where to locate a RHD steering arm, or spidle. Want it to look "old", instead of moderen
"U" type.

Thanks!

Any info helpful.

Hard to believe no one responded back then; do you still need the info?

No advice...I did however track down some brakes...but have since decided to go with a later axle, 1957-1964 era.
I bought this later axle on eBay for about $25.+ shipping, a restored complete unit. I need to ad a dip in the center and thus narrowing it. I tore it apart and brought bare axle to MorDrop in Oakland. After six months and still nothing done, a person I knew in the UK said they could do it quickly. To make a long story short they could not handle axle thickness at shop in UK, and was written off.
So I'm now looking for someone that can put a dip into the center of a later F100. Any ideas out there. Guess I could try Mordrop again if nothing pans out.
Also, what is the difference betwen say 1957 and a 1964 front axle? Mine had the small "smile" dip in it, I think 1964. Perhaps I should get one a couple years earlier if it does not have the smile, for a more even dip once formed.
..and guess all my other parts, spindles, etc. should fit /work...?

If you are putting this under a car (it would perhaps help to kinow which one), an Econoline axle is probably your best bet. They make repro's, too. Do you need the dip (smile) for pan clearance? It would be much easier (I'd guess) to modify the pan.

It 's going into (under) a completly custom car. Dip is just for looks and to narrow for spring width. (and yes there will be plenty of clearence with large wheels). Line drawing shows what I need.
The axle I was going to use is same as photo. Think is was from a complete 1964 front end, but think I should find the F100 front axle without the small "smile" dip, so the dip will be smoother when formed.
What later years between 1957-1964 had the "stright axle" without smile?

ccbb,
Talk to Steve Szymanski at Industrial Chassis in Phoenix, 602-278-6800. They do dropped axles and I'm sure they would figure out a way to put a "smile" in the middle of your axle. They are experienced fabricators and die-hard hot rodders. Give them a call and explain what you want to do.

The axle you have in the picture is a 53-58 Ford axle. The only thing different between 53-56 and 57-60 is 53-56 u-bolt holes are 1-3/4" between the hole for a 1-3/4" wide spring. The 57-60 is 2 " between u-bolt holes for a 2" wide spring. Some 58-60 trucks have a axle with know smile in the middle. It might be because the plant they were made in. I've had 57-59 trucks some have the smile and some don't. I have noticed the 59-60 have the flat axle more often. I'm sorry I could not help you on putting the dip in the center. It's just by the time I make a fixture to make the dip I would have a lot of time, material and expence in the axle the price would be unreal. If I would use the fixture a few times I could get my money back for the fixture. If you have any more questions or need more help call me at 405-416-3080 I'll be glad to help you. All Ford front axles have cast ID numbers on them.

1948/56 F100's use the actual part number.

1957/64 F100's use engineering numbers.
----------------------------------------------------
1948/52: 7RC-3010-B

1953/56: TAAA-3010-A

1957: TAAK-3010-A = B7C-3010-A

1958/60: TAAK-3010-B = B8C-3010-A

1961/64: C1TA-3010-F or C3TA-3010-J = C3TZ-3010-J

The parts catalogs also list all the specs for the above axles.

Piggybacking this thread. Which is wider, the F1, or early Econoline axle?

I thought they were the same width. But are the spring pads the same?
