Starter help

No crank on my excursion so it sits for now, I put a new starter Jan/2013 was an ACDelco 337-1063 and it seems to be dead, will have it tested tomorrow. I took it off and the black plastic housing on the solenoid was busted off. Question is it's under warranty, should I just get my cash back and find a better unit. Replacing the Cooler, Turbo, Locking Hubs, might as well bust the wallet a lil wider and put something on I won't have to worry about for a long time.

I'd start by trying to figure out how the plastic part got busted off. Busted off usually isn't the fault of the part or brand.

If it was just cheap enough for it to fall apart on it's own, then it would be time to switch brands.

I did the same thing on my truck. The plastic housing will bust if you tighten the bolt too tight. This will void your warranty if that's what happened however NAPA was great and they took mine back and replaced it but they didn't have too.

May have been that but with all this cold weather we've had, it's only 9 degrees out now and the fact it's plastic I thought may have something to do with it. I just had it tested to verify and yea it's dead. My thing is I don't really want another one of these even thought they are sending it.

so I'm leaning mainly between the Mean Green Mean Green Gear Reduction Starter 7.3L Ford PowerStroke

and the denso with high remarks, is this the real deal? TG428000-8420 Original Denso Gear Reduction Starter for 2001-2003 Ford Excursion, F Series Pickup 7.3L Power Stroke Diesel

anybody care to narrow it down for me?

I went with a Denso from Japan PN Denso (WET) 228000-8420, 12v. I ordered it through my local starter shop that repaired my OEM which I use as a backup. It's pricy but certainly not a Denso knockoff. You can see some pics at my profile.
