88 L8000 info needed

I recently acquired a 88 L8000.
Power/ diesel 6 cylinder. I know one thing for sure. its not Cat/Detroit/Cummins/IH. Has Ford Logos on it and is rated at 210 hp. One guy told me its related to the ford tractor engine. Any body know anything else about them?

Transmission is an Allison automatic.

And I need a wiring diagram. The original cab, Which I got in the deal was rotted out bad. The swapped out the cabs. Tach and speedometer don't work. All fuses are good. But there are wires on the firewall junction strips that are not hooked up.

I'll post pics later. Got it for $3000, 124,000 original miles. It was an old Pepsi truck. Was used for a yard truck to move trailers and plow snow.

The engine is a 7.8l FTO engine. FTO stands for Ford tractor operations and the engine was adapted from the tractor side. Good engines if they are maintained well. If not expect a rebuild due to cavitation. Bored and sleeved many in my shop.

Thanks jpr. Since you say bored and sleeved I'm assuming these are not a sleeved engine then.

I think my electrical problem is ground. tach started working when I moved it out of the shop today. Gauges wack out once in a while and the where working for a while today. I'll chase that gremlin first of the week.

Got the interior part way back in today. Sure is nice to sit on a seat instead of a 5 gallon bucket

If they changed the cab, they may not have put the ground strap on it from the engine to the cab firewall, or to the frame. There should be one from the battery to the frame, and to the engine, and from the engine to the cab, and from the cab to the frame, I'd think. At least, there SHOULD be no matter what

For all you know, the cab is grounding through the steering column

Correct, they are not sleeved engines. And go with Krewat's suggestion for the gauge issue about looking for a ground issue.
