Then after it warms up the noise goes away or is very lite. I read a ton of info about the ticking that is at Idle after it is warm but this is when the engine is a first start then it warms up and goes away. Could this be part of the relief valve in the oil filter assembly

Oh I forgot to mention that this is a 02 f150 with 138k this has just started.
I don't have the truck, this is my buddies truck so I thought I would ask you guys for your expertise

crap I tried to edit a couple times to add more info but I couldnt get it to take so I will just reply to my own post.

The knocking is real heavy on a cold start then after about 5 minutes the knock goes away completely and sounds fine. no ticking of any kind

any ideas

 

could it possibly be a valve-clearance issue?.. the rods may be too short and after the engine warms up and the metal expands the clearance gap shortens, causing the knocking to stop? maybe the valve seats/faces need to be lapped? just a thought...
