problems with 2007 ford escape

problems with 2007 ford escape
as stated i have the 2007 2.3l ford escape. the problems i am having are as follows:
1. The transmission seems to be fine no problems shifting or accelerating yet the fluid is really dark but does not smell burnt but is sort of dark red/brown
2. the 4x4 light flashes intermittently and I am not sure if the 4x4 works cause i just got the car and have not tried it.
3. the odometer display is blank, it is lit up but i cannot see any numbers at all.
4. cant seem to get the rear hatch to unlock so i can open it.
any help on these issues would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.
