08-6.4 diesel trailer brake fault

I have an 08 F-350 6.4 with 54k miles on it and out of warranty.
I keep getting a trailer brake fault alarm I called the dealer and he says there are no recalls on the module. He says ''bring it in''.$$
I checked the plug and it was clean no water leakage to short the plug.
Does any one know of a recall or how to test this thing for a short?

I assume you have on the message center TBC Fault...

This is all I know for TSB's:
Message center displaying "Wiring Fault On Trailer":
This may occur due to water intrusion/corrosion in the trailer connector socket or the connector behind the socket. If corrosion is present, replace the socket and harness and lube with silicone dielectric grease. If there are no signs of water, perform normal diagnosis. Broadcast Message 7052, 7108.

So I maybe that or the module itself. Did you check fuses as well?

The TBC itself is a plug and play module so you could just replace it yourself if It is acutally bad.

do a search in the towing section, lots of good stuff there about wiring...not real 100% what wire does what..1st thing to check is grounds.

I take it the fault is there with or without trailer?

Just had the dealer replace mine. 190 bucks later. It was the piece that goes onto the master Cylinder. No more errors or codes

TSB 09-9-1 titled Wiring fault displayed .... talks about this problem. Actually there are several of them but I think some are for the F-150's. This may be the same one Senix is talking about. Usually he's on the money on these things. But here is a link to the 09-9-1 TSB. 09-9-1*** WIRING FAULT ON TRAILER DISPLAYED IN MESSAGE CENTER - DTC C2806

Does it do it without a trailer hooked up?
If it does I can almost guarantee you it has had moisture in the pigtail connector on the back of the plug and corroded.
Have had 3 put on mine in 36K and it's doing it again.

yes it's always on/
i checked the pigtail and the clip that holds it together was broken and Ford covered it up by taping it.
I don't suppose I'll get anywhere with ford on this, they will deny it.
I'm going to spray some WD40 on it and use a little dielectric grease on it.
thank you and all the Forum members.

If the dealer is close why not run it by them and see what they say. Maybe at least they will split the cost?

I hope for your sake it is just the module or plug, that is a relatively easy fix. I have fixed the plug several times. However, I had that same problem and after 2 days of searching the dealer finally found the problem in the main wiring harness that runs around the whole truck. They tried to fix the pins in the plugs first but ended up having to replace the entire wiring harness to the tune of $2,000. Luckily mine was still in warranty.

That problem is most usually in the trailer. Check the wires where they go into the drum. Check inside the drum for seperated or frayed wires. Since it is intermittent it may be a frayed wire that is causing the error.

Rich , It's doing it without the trailer hooked up.
