Got Chip installed

Chipped arrived today, Got it installed pretty fast thankfully all my contacts were pre-cleaned and ready for install from a couple of other chips. got up and running in about 8 mins. No more Hunt when I let off the go peddle and no more Hunting when i change tunes. Huge thanks to Bill and Corey now I got the truck moved I can get my garaged Cleaned out and Moved to storage.

I still don't think its pushing the HP it should be. I don't know what could possible be different from my 02 PMR motor and this one. But before the Rods went thru the block the darn thing ran like a raped ape. Now the search continues on to what might be difference. Hopefully Here soon I can get it on the Rollers and get a solid HP and TQ #'s.

driximus did you get your motor rebuilt or did you buy one with forged rods? I have an 01 with pmr rods and trying to get as much hp safetly as I can. Will be looking for a forged motor in the future.

Thanks Roger

Thanks Roger

I went with the send the PMR's through the block option then I picked up a complete Used engine with Forged Rods.

I think most folks that go with this option seem to move to forged rods quicker than the guys who just post good numbers and worry.

What tunes were you running before you installed windows 7.3? From what I hear, Bills tunes don't add the power down low the same way so the butt dyno will probably feel off.

If you get on the rollers, be sure to share your numbers.

I was barely turning above Idle speeds pulling out to turn on a road. 4 rods went. It was a Modified stock tune.

That's pretty common from what I've seen. Most windows seem to occur while just cruising down the road with no real strain. But they do seem to follow shortly after some significant event like a dyno run, sled pull, race, or really getting on it session.

That's why 80e has gotten such a bad rap from some folks. People go out and do a sled pull maxing out their engine, then do a couple of dyno runs to see what they got. When they switch back to the daily driving tune and are just cruising around like a normal person is when it finally seems to give. You would think more stories would be like Cale who blew his block into 3 pieces while getting on it, but many seem to happen after the stress on the motor.

My '03 hs them, so I assume the '02's would have had it as an option too.

No, that was a DIY thing and my favorite mod every winter. I know we really don't have winter down here, but I despise the cold (below 40). I LOVE my heated seat and will NEVER have a vehicle without one now that I know how simple it is.

Here's a link for you Heated seats install

I'd suggest you buy the install kit that comes with new hog rings, hog ring pliers, and the little hole saw for the switch.

Also, as long as you're tearing into it, I'd suggest you jump in the passenger seat and see how it feels compared to the driver side. The other thing I did was order a new foam seat bottom cushion from Ed and install that with the heaters. It was like I had a brand new truck.

Not going to start anything... the reason 80e has gotten such a bad rap is due to this issue...

That being said...

Your HP is more or less the same I would bet, the biggest difference is how it comes on. Some tuners like to adjust the % of throw on the accelerator, when your at 30% of the peddle, the PCM see's 70%...

It feels faster, but its not.

I've seen the graphs Joe. Just not smart enough to understand them Still waiting on that thread from Gene.

I understand what you're saying, but you've got to admit there have been more than a few failures in 80e that have occurred in what should be considered the "safe" zone in that graph. Cruising down the road at 40 mph with less than 3psi boost is hardly a condition that should end up in a windowed block.

Whatever the bad points are in your graph for 80e, do they become exponentially worse as the tunes jump up to 120 or 140? From what I've seen here (I know you have first hand experience with this so that should count for more than me just reading threads) many failures have come while mildly cruising down the road after some big event. Perhaps an hairline crack in an extreme tune finally fails after a couple of miles, and it ends up being in 80e just due to that being the default daily driver setting?

Most perhaps mine was was not rodded on I knew i was risking it so i was babying the truck to spare the engine.

Joe,

the PMR Engine of mine that blew was the engine that felt stronger, it was when i switched engines Same chip I noticed it didn't feel as powerful. I don't know why still trying to figure it out gonna go to a Shop I know and get some ICP readings tomorrow and see if there is anything there.

From Jody's to Bill's chip they feel about the same power wise however Bills is a little more Linear with the throttle. Jodys felt more aggressive early. Also wanted to go this weekend to dyno it but I think im gonna wait till the following weekend my buddy wants to do some pulls on his Duraturd and his tuner will be there. He said when he goes with him he normally gets more pulls cause hes buddy buddy with the guy.

Who knows I have been part time driving my buddies 600ish Horse Duraturd so it could me my Seat-0-pants meter has been put out of Cal.
