Good Morning, or what's left of it. Had to run a few errands this morning. Nice day except for the wind, oh well this is west Texas! Had to take a grandson to meet up with his "father" last evening (little 4.0 hr round trip) went thru some heavy rain and small grape size hail then had most of Amarillo blow on my truck so it was really dirty this morning. Washed it and inspected, no visible damage I could see, Thankfully. Oh I had to lets say "hurry" to get him there on time, I got 18 MPG according to the LOM running 80-85 on the way out and got it nudged up to 19 coming home running mostly 70-75 except for about 20 miles at 60 during the worst rain and hail. Not bad for a 4X4 Screw with 6.5 bed, 5.0 motor and 3.55 gears. what really sucked was headwind both ways. Going east I was running into southeasterly winds, then turned back into the norther that caught up to me, hence the rain and hail, so I had a headwind coming home! Well I got some more running to do and a Great grandson 1st birthday party to go to, later today. I hope you all have a nice weekend!

Off the top of my head a pushrod 5.0 was commonly connected to the C6, E4OD, AOD, T5, and ZF-5 transmissions.

Other engines that will possibly bolt right up to your trans would be the 5.8, 4.9 straight 6, and the 3.8 v6.

What's wrong with your current engine? The SBF 5.0 is a pretty great engine.

The coyote makes a lot of power stock but transplanting that is big $$ and quite a bit of hotrodding work. Keep in mind if you don't run carbureted then changing something about the engine more than a little means you need anything from custom programming to a completely new engine management system depending on how far you go.

low compression on one of the cylinders, so it could be as simple as caked valves, the shop wants 9g to replace, swapping an engine isn't that 9g big of a deal, I'll do it myself just need a bit of guidance on the size but i dont agree that the 5 is realy that good my 3.5 eates it alive

Yeah 9 grand to replace is a joke. A leak-down test will tell you if it's upper cylinder or lower cylinder. If it's upper cylinder I got $20 that says it isn't a dirty valve, been around them too much and that just doesn't happen on these. If you're lucky it's upper cylinder and it's just a broken valve spring, I have seen that a few times.

The truck version of the 5.0, I'm guessing we're talking 80's to 90's, is not a hot rod from the factory. If you want it to be a hot rod that's easy enough to do. How fast do you want to spend?

That 3.5 is direction injection turbocharged and it's a great engine too. I have the 450 horsepower version in my Navigator and had the 385 horsepower version in an F150 before that and love them both. However that's crankshaft horsepower. I've built pushrod 5.0's to over 500 horsepower at the tires, and that isn't exactly impressive as there are people taking them (albeit not on stock blocks) over 1,000 at the tires.
