Is it worth it?

Hey, thanks for the help ahead of time

ok, I was out lookin for parts to convert my 81 F100 to a heavy 4x4, and i found a 89 F250. The guy only wants 2600 for it and it seems pretty stable.

The truck is extended cab long bed, 4x4 w/ manual lockers, a overdrive auto trans., 7.3 IDI. As far as i could tell from the test drive, its got cojones. No problems with accelaration, 0-70 was far better than my 89 chevy with a 5.7, no shifting probs, and the 4x4 works well (also better than the chevy)

As far as issues, the paint is rusting off the hood, nothin that a spray can cant fix. The tailgate mechanism dosent work, but ill probally take it off anyway. It needs a radio, and a front seat. The seat i can get from grandads truck for free.

So is 2600 worth the truck here? or should i get the parts for the F100 which totals 2450?

the 7.3 idi is not excatly the best thing to go off roading in... If your going to switch it to a diesel then get a 7.3 powerstroke but thats alot of work to swap a diesel into your f100... IMO i would get a 351w and build that up and drop it in. What else are your planning to do with the f250? swap the axles out? transmission? what excatly do you plan on doing? we need alot more details to help you out

NoNoNo, sorry bout that. I have a 300 and 3.03 toploader in the f100. I plan on buying the 250 to use as a offroad truck. I will keep them both and offload the piece of ***** chevy on someone else.

oh haha for 2600 it dosent sound like a bad deal if it runs good. of course a extended cab. long bed truck isnt the best for offroading because of the length of the truck and the 7.3 idi isnt the best thing in the world ethier. For something to just mess around with then it dosent sound like a bad idea throw some mudders under it and go to town with it! See if you can find a 89-96 f150 with the 5.0 or 5.8 in it cause there lighter then the f250 and the wheel base is shorter along with the motor being lighter... their just better overall offroad trucks because they are lighter and the 7.3 IDI isnt excatly a offroad motor lol but its really up to you

Your location shows as Tennessee, Are you familuar with the area around Craig County, Va? This is the area where i do most of my offroading. I am looking at a F250 for the towing capasity. While the diesel may not be the best 4x4 motor, they will haul like a mack.
as for th eextended cab, its a must. I am the only person in the house with a lience, and quit frankly, i want sis in the back seat. She was bad for knocking the 100 out of gear.
